Mardle: the Norfolk word for what gen Z term ‘Big talk’. A mardle forms the foundation for finding new ideas and the buying and selling of all agricultural commodities. The John Forrest course has certainly sharpened my mardling skills. Whether it’s down the pub or in the grain store a good chat and a laugh eases a hard day. We’re an industry who runs on people, mardling’s the key to looking after them!
Blunder: to fall over, metaphorically and physically. We’ve all had blunders. Those moments where the proverbial cow muck hits the fan. These split seconds bring out the best and worst in everyone. As we live in a time where social media glosses and polishes farming, it’s important to remember life’s not like this and accidents happen. People blunder but it’s their recovery that matters most.
Boi: if you’re lucky, you’ll get to be the ‘boi’ twice on the farm, once as a young boi and once as an old boi. It’s a moment of flux for agriculture but the passing of time is constant, we all grow up into our parents and hope we make some changes along the way. My time as the earlier Boi is coming to an end, I step forward into the new world with all its challenges and triumphs, and I hope one day I’ll be a good old boi.
