Where do we start, before starting the John Forrest Award I wasn’t sure what to expect but I was very much looking forward to learning all about the ins and outs of communications and different ways to communicate to others.
From written skills to talking in front of an audience of people I have taken so much away from the 3 days. I can put so many of these skills into practice in my day to day working environments as I’m an area sales manager for Ben Burgess. Part of my job is to talk and educate our customers about the latest machinery and technology we are embracing. Outside of my working hours I’m also the County Chair of Norfolk YFC so the course was hugely beneficial for my life as well. Within my role I must chair multiple meeting and present in front of Audiences – sometimes members or supporters of YFC.
I have already tried out my new confidence from the 3 days – just one example was Chairing a Young Farmers Meeting which got out of hand with 2 members having a heated discussion and having to find each of there points out and bring the conversation back to room level and wrapping the conversation up quickly. Before the course I wouldn’t have known how to conduct the room in the tricky situation.
I can’t wait to put so many more of these into practice – as Susie told us nerves is just adrenalin and we should embrace that! I can honestly say I have learnt so many life skills from the John Forrest Awards which I will carry forward from years to come. Before coming on the course, I wasn’t sure how to conduct myself in front of an audience of people and now I feel a lot more confident, and I wouldn’t let my nerves get to me.
I would highly recommend this course to any one within an Agri Business who believes one day they might have to present or chair a meeting – as I said before you will take so many life skills away from the 3 days.
